Week 3, Day 6

I got to see the lake today.YES!!! That alone is enough to make me smile all day today. Here is where I stopped to stretch my legs a bit over some bench acing the lake. This was a relatively easy week of running. I have one more run tomorrow, a 6-miler. As much as I like the trails, I think I will do my 6-miler on pavement tomorrow, for my ankles are totally beat from navigating over all the loose rocks and mud from the rain on this particular trail.

My compression shorts ripped where my thighs meet mid-run and it made me think that for any long run, like a race, I would have to take with me a threaded needle for occasions such as these. To avoid getting chafed, I simply rotated my sweaty shorts pant leg around to the front of my tight a bit so that the hole did not meet my other leg, it worked. Although every runner coming towards me got to see a weird hole in the front of my shorts. Luckily, few people are on the trails early on a Saturday morning. I got home and sewed up the hole and the shorts are back in circulation.

Surprisingly, I ran without music for the second time this week, and in a long time. It seems almost wrong to go into a rich, lush forest and put on earphones to hear pop music, my heavy synthetic running tunes heavily clashes with the more natural feel of the forest.

Surviving the monotony of a treadmill.....

I have a new secret to getting by those boring treadmill miles, Youtube music videos!! In my case I LOVE watching music videos of Joan Soriano singing bachata....... his voice is just the best sound I've heard in a long time and the lyrics are so rich and beautiful. See below for some samples of his work. Now I am going to teach myself to dance bachata like some of those dancers in the video....oh, and of course....we HAVE to go to The Dominican Republic sometime soon....

....get up and dance you.....

Me miras,
y el universo de tus ojos me lo cuenta todo.
Me hablas
y me preguntas al oido si te quiero un poco.
Me abrazas
y tus palabras son:
que pasar manaa cuando te hayas ido,
a quin podr contarle que te siento lejos.
Maana
se dormir el amor,
y guardar tus rosas para cuando brille
el sol.
Coro:
Y yo te dir,
temblando la voz
el tempo va de prisa y ese dia que soamos vendr
Apaga la luz, la noche esta marchndose ya (2x)
Despierta
y tu sonrisa que amanece lo lumina todo,
me besas
y las palomas de tus manos acarician todo,
preguntas
y tus preguntas son:
que pasar maana cuando te hayas ido,
a quien podrá contarle que te siento lejos,
maana
se dormir el amor
y guardar tu rosas para cuando brille
el sol.
Coro (3x)
(Si t te vas qu voy hacer)

English translation: Joan Soriano - What Will Happen Tomorrow?
(Dominican Bachata)

You look at me
and the universe of your eyes tells me everything
You talk to me
And ask me softly if I love you a little bit
You embrace me
And your words are
“What will happen tomorrow when you have left?
To whom will I tell that you feel far away?”
Tomorrow
Our love will sleep
and will save your roses for when shines
the sun

Chorus:
And I will tell you
with trembling voice
the time is passing quickly
and the day that we dream of will come
turn off the light, the night is already passing (x2)

Wake up,
and your rising smile lights everything for me
you kiss me
and the palms of your hands caress everything
you ask
and your questions are:
“What will happen tomorrow when you have left?
To whom will I tell that you feel far away?”
tomorrow our love will sleep
and will save your roses for when shines
the sun.

Chorus: (x3)
(if you leave, what will I do?)

Music I cannot run without......

My iphone has frozen quite often lately on runs in weather colder than 30 degrees. Which will leave me counting my rhythmic breathing to 12 and back again until the run is over, which by the way, is not very exciting. So....I am trying to device ways to maintain my phone dry and warm on my cold runs. Below are some of my favorite tunes this winter.

Cannot live without my Nathan handheld with iphone pocket

I cannot live without this water bottle. It's pockets are deep enough  and have two separate compartments within the one pocket. I use it to hold up to 2 Gu's, or a few water tablets, and one key, and maybe a credit card. The phone sits right up front and can be manipulated through the clear plastic screen....I listen to music while running and also use MapMyRun app to track my mileage through my phone and therefore need to be able to get to my phone without a hassle. I saw these at REI for $32 but I got mine at Marshalls for $12!! What a steal....Your arms need to get used to carrying the water bottle if you long long distances, but, now I find it's not as hard as it was when I began. Still beats the belt in my mind. The belt is not stretchy therefore it's either too tight or too loose, and it's often a hassle to get the bottle out of the belt, much easier to hold it. Great for anyone running 6-13 miles....any more miles and you would either need to refill bottle or take two.
